Police arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of aggravated assault-related charges connected with the shooting of a 42-year-old woman who is being treated at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital for life-threatening wounds.
Police responded to a call of shots being fired near the office at the Sonoran Canyon Apartments, 265 N. Gilbert Road, Mesa, about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and when officers arrived, they discovered the woman on the sidewalk with numerous gunshot wounds, according to Mesa police.
Witnesses saw two males running from the scene, and after authorities surrounded the complex, one of the boys was caught trying to cross a nearby canal. A gun and a backpack were found nearby. The second boy was found hiding in a fenced-in commercial RV parking lot near the canal, police said.
One of the boys is 16, and the other is 17, according to police. Police believe the victim and the boys did not know each other.
