The Chandler Police Department is accepting applications for the next session of its Citizen’s Academy for residents interested in learning more about police work and what goes on behind the scenes.

The classes, which begin on Aug. 25 for residents or people working within the city, will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for 13 weeks at the main precinct of the Chandler Police Department. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, or 15 if accompanied by a parent, and have no felony or misdemeanor convictions within six months of their application date. All applicants also must pass a background check.

Courses taught during the academy include Media and the Law, firearms training, gang awareness, patrol functions, the canine program, criminal investigations, narcotics, traffic law, the special assignment unit and use of force.
