A fire that began earlier Saturday along the median and west side of SR 87 is estimated at about 30 acres and is contained, according to the National Forest Service.
Air and ground resources were deployed to suppress multiple fire starts, according to a forest service news release. Assistance was also provided by Payson and Tonto Basin fire departments, the state Department of Public Safety and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
SR 87 was projected to be open by 8:30 p.m. Saturday, after being closed Saturday afternoon. For updates, check with DPS.

DPS had also closed southbound I-17 at MP 248 due to a growing brush fire in that area. The road was closed at the rest area and no alternate route was given. No additional information was available Saturday night.
