Chandler police are accepting applications for its “volunteers in policing services” program.

The program consists of volunteers who respond to stranded motorist calls, accident scenes, issues parking tickets, recovered property calls and other non-criminal calls for service.

To be a motorist assist volunteer, one must be 21 years old, and complete the police department’s volunteer academy. The academy will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning March 22 and ending April 14 with one Saturday class on April 2. After graduation, volunteers will receive fifty hours of hands-on field training.

Last year, more than 70 volunteers logged more than 10,000 hours to the Chandler Police Department.
