One opened for Ann-Margret; others delighted audiences on cruise ships. Still others simply enjoy performing.

This year’s Spice of Life Senior Variety Show will feature 29 acts and more than 40 performers of diverse backgrounds, all age 50 and older, as the shows make the move to the Chandler Center for the Arts main stage in its 21st year.

The acts will include singing, dancing, musical performances and comedy. Among the performers are several former Ms. Senior Arizona winners and one former Ms. Senior New York.

“One year there were cloggers who had a hilarious bit,” said Carolan Quenneville, who does a humorous monologue each year.

This year’s show will feature two performances, March 12 at 2 p.m. and March 13 at 7 p.m. That is one fewer performance than years past, but the show’s move from the auxiliary theater to the big stage hopes to more than make up of it.

“We have quite a following and it will be wonderful to be on the big stage,” said Arlene Strandberg, in her 13th year as director.

“The bigger the crowd the better the atmosphere,” said Quenneville, a former member of Toastmasters International. “I enjoy making people laugh.”

Proceeds from the shows go to the Chandler Senior Center. General admission tickets are $6 in advance if purchased at the Chandler or Gilbert Senior Centers, or at the Center for the Arts box office with an additional handling fee.

“The show has some wonderful people and performances,” Quenneville said. “To the performers and those involved it’s almost like a family and a family reunion every time we come together each year.”

Strandberg, who said she would have quit a long time ago if the show wasn’t as fun as it is, said a majority of this year’s performers are from Chandler.
