Nadine Mathis-Basha of Chandler, chairwoman of the First Things First Initiative, will receive the Valley of the Sun United Way’s 2006 Spirit of Caring Award today at United Way’s annual Community Impact Event in Phoenix.
Mathis-Basha is being recognized for her commitment to making quality early learning a priority for the community. Mathis-Basha and her husband, Eddie Basha, are longtime members of Valley of the Sun United Way’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
Mathis-Basha is an avid community volunteer who has captured the respect and recognition of various community organizations for her contributions. She founded Children’s Action Alliance, a public policy advocacy group dedicated to furthering the interests of children’s issues. In addition, she was named the 2004 Woman of the Year by Valley Leadership and recognized by Arizona State University’s Distinguished Achievement Award for her accomplishments in the area of early childhood education.
