Two Chandler police officers were hospitalized with minor injuries after their patrol cars were rammed during a police pursuit Monday night.
Police said Steven Astorga, 24, of Albuquerque, N.M., led police on a chase at 10:20 p.m. after he smashed into a Jeep several times. The woman driving the Jeep was not injured.
A 911 call minutes earlier reported that a driver at McQueen and Warner roads was getting in and out of his van, stopping traffic and yelling at motorists.
During the chase, the van rammed two patrol cars driven by officers Dan Greene and Blake King, who were released from Chandler Regional Hospital early Tuesday morning. Police said the cars were heavily damaged.
After the van rammed a third police car at McQueen and Ray roads, officers were able to surround the van and arrested Astorga with the help of a stun gun.
Astorga was arrested on suspicion of four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of criminal damage, one count of unlawful flight, one count of resisting arrest and DUI.
Police said they also suspect Astorga in a hit-and-run earlier Monday night in Mesa.
