The King and Queen Chihuahuas of 2011 were crowned last weekend as part of Chandler’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration and Chihuahua Races.
The king is Pepe, owned by Barb Ciocchetti, and the queen is Chia, owned by Autumn Jones.
More than 80 Chihuahuas competed in the 14th annual Chihuahua races. The first place race winner was Chico, owned by Ted Becerra. Last year’s champion, Cherry, owned by Mayra Armenta, came in second place, and in third place was Levi, owned by Pam Yamada.
The Cinco de Mayo Celebration honors the Hispanic community’s contributions to Chandler. Annual event highlights include authentic Mexican dancing, music, a health fair, and the Chihuahua races.
