University of Phoenix announced Chandler resident Eric Sabourin is one of two recipients of the 2012 Blair River Memorial Scholarship. Sabourin will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
Blair River was a University of Phoenix employee who passed away in 2011 after battling double pneumonia. Despite the challenges of juggling a full-time job and raising a daughter as a single father, according to the university, “Blair worked diligently to achieve his goal of continuing his education.“
Sabourin, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, first started classes at University of Phoenix in October 2011. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Sabourin plans to go on to law school.
“When I learned about the Blair River Memorial Scholarship, I immediately identified with him and what he stood for,” said Sabourin. “When I was 15 months old I lost my own father. My mother always did everything she could for me, and her desires for me to succeed only mirrored my own and the dreams of my father. I am so incredibly thankful to University of Phoenix for the opportunity to pursue my dream of a higher education.”
