A suspect is on the loose after exchanging gunfire with authorities in Chandler Monday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Chandler and Dobson roads.

In a press conference Monday night, Chandler police spokesman Joseph Favazzo said officers tracked the suspect, David Javier Gonzales, 25, to an apartment complex in the area.

Favazzo said officers and Gonzales exchanged gunfire and he fled the complex in a stolen Ford Fusion.

Police said no officers were injured. Favazzo said they do not know if Gonzales was hit.

Officers said they have secured the stolen vehicle, but are still searching for the suspect at this time.

Gonzales is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 170 pounds, wearing wearing a white tank top, black basketball shorts and black and white Air Jordan type tennis shoes.

Police said Gonzales is the same man who prompted the lockdown of five Chandler schools on Monday morning .

Chandler High School and four other schools were locked down after witnesses reported an armed man in the area.

The SWAT team was called to the scene, and the suspect was not located.
