Chandler and the Valley of the Sun United Way are seeking volunteers to help with Project Connect 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21 at Chandler Christian Church, 1825 S. Alma School Road. The event for individuals, families and veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless will provide access to the resources they need to recover their health, financial stability and housing.

According to a news release, nonprofit and government agencies will be at the church to provide medical care, showers, haircuts, clothing, meals, bicycle repair, counseling, substance abuse services, employment services, foreclosure prevention information, and connections to housing and other basic health and human services.

You can help by volunteering for a morning or afternoon shift - between hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - to serve meals, distribute clothing and help people connect with social service providers.

Shuttles at various locations in Chandler will pick up homeless people and families to transport them to the event.

When Project Connect was last held in Chandler in 2009, over 200 volunteers helped more than 150 individuals.

To volunteer, go to www.vsuw.org/projectconnect. For volunteer groups of 10 or more, contact Farren Hinton at (602) 631-4815 or email fhinton@vsuw.org.
