A five-mile stretch of a new eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in Chandler is scheduled to open next month, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The new section of the eastbound HOV lane runs between Dobson and Gilbert roads. To prepare for an early-morning opening June 6, ADOT crews will close eastbound Loop 202 between Price and Gilbert roads from 10 p.m. June 3 to 5 a.m. June 6. Pecos and Germann roads or Chandler Boulevard are suggested detour routes during the weekend closure.
This marks a milestone in the $85 million Santan Freeway HOV-lane construction project, which began in September and is scheduled for completion this fall. The project involves building 12 miles of east- and westbound HOV lanes on the Santan Freeway between Interstate 10 and Gilbert Road and direct ramps to link the new lanes with HOV lanes on I-10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway).
The remaining eastbound HOV lane from I-10 to Dobson Road and the westbound HOV lane from Gilbert Road to I-10 are scheduled to open this fall when the project is complete.
