With public support, students at Chandler's Santan Junior High School have collected thousands of items to send to Marines serving overseas.
Social studies teacher Elizabeth Hamilton launched the initiative to help her husband's platoon after he deployed this fall shortly after their wedding. Hamilton said several Walgreens stores donated nearly 5,000 items.
The Red Mountain Tea Party out of Mesa donated an entire car full of merchandise and enough money to mail 60 boxes. Hamilton sent out the first boxes earlier this month.

It's wonderful to see today's young people respecting and honoring our Military. Social Studies classes are the perfect venue to inform students about our Constitution, our Three Branches of Government and our Military and Civilian History. Great job, Teacher Hamilton in creating the Patriotic Citizens of Tomorrow and her students at Santan Jr. High School for giving our Marines a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks too, go out to the Red Mountain Tea Party for donating all of that money (60 packages at $12.95 each) and the goodies for those packages sent to the Marines. They really appreciate any thing that they receive. Thankfully, the Marine squad that I had supported with a few packages every month through "AnySoldier.com"..all came home safe last month. The LT wrote that.."baby wipes were worth their weight in gold out there in the boonies".
