The Chandler Police Department’s K-9 unit received a treat from the American Legion’s Post No. 35.

Dana Dobson, commander of the Sons of the American Legion, presented Chandler Police Chief Sherry Kiyler and the K-9 unit with a check for $6,000 this week that will be used for training and equipment.

The money was raised during the Kickstands Up for K-9s a motorcycle ride hosted by the Legion post on May 7.

The Chandler K-9 unit, established in 1974, consists of five dogs and handler teams who provide assistance to officers by conducting drug detections, building and field searches for suspects and missing persons and crowd control and often prevent use of deadly force.
