Chandler is expanding its water conservation efforts with new incentives and tips.

The city is offering up to $250 in rebates to property owners who install weather-based irrigation controllers that use plant water requirements, weather data and rain information to automatically adjust watering times and frequencies. Also, the city is expanding a landscape conversion rebate to all utility customers to encourage people to replace lawns with low-water-use landscaping.

Participants can receive $200 for every 1,000 square feet of turf that’s replaced, for a maximum of $3,000. Additionally, Chandler will send reminders to residential customers whose water use has more than doubled from the previous month. The notification can alert customers who many have major water leaks.

A free audit is offered to help customers reduce water use. More information on the programs is available at www.chandleraz.gov/water or (480) 782-3580.

About time. Arizona lives as if we are flush with water.
