Residents of Chandler who volunteer in their community now have an opportunity to receive a little recognition for their efforts.

Chandler has joined with the Chandler Non-Profit Coalition and For Our City-Chandler to create a program that rewards volunteers for their work via the Chandler Volunteer Recognition Awards. Faith-based groups, schools, nonprofits, businesses and other groups with volunteers can nominate a volunteer for one of the seven awards.

"We would not be the great community we are without the tremendous contributions made every day by selfless volunteers," Mayor Jay Tibshraeny said in a press release. "They work to benefit others, not themselves, and shy away from recognition, but deserve our thanks and appreciation."

Nominations are due by Dec. 20, and honorees are announced at the city’s annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast in 2014. For a list of all seven awards, the guidelines or to nominate a volunteer visit either cnpc.org or chandleraz.gov/diversity.
