An 11-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being stung by a swarm of bees, says authorities.

Thomas Dwiggins, spokesman for the Chandler Fire Department, said the boy was walking down the street near Knox and Alma School roads when he was attacked by a swarm of bees Monday.

Witnesses reportedly told police that the boy looked like he was covered by a black cloud, said Dwiggins.

Maintenance workers saw what was happening and drove the boy to a local restaurant to call for help, he said.

The boy's mother reportedly told officials that he is allergic to bees.

Dwiggins said a woman was also attacked and reportedly stung a dozen times. The woman ran into a Circle K and refused medical treatment, he said.

The boy was transported to Chandler Regional Hospital.

No other details were released.
