Positive test results of Legionella bacteria at the Town of Gilbert library on the campus of Perry High School have prompted officials to close the library and the school.

Chandler Unified School District opted to close Perry High, 1919 E. Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, as a precautionary measure on Tuesday after the town closed the library on Monday evening.

While the testing was confined to the municipal library, Chandler Unified officials closed Perry High to conduct independent testing of the school.

"While there have been no reports of illness, we are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our students and staff,"  Superintendent Camille Casteel said in a news release.

The library was tested after a Maricopa County Library District employee tested positive for a different infection, whooping cough, which signaled sampling by the county of the facility, the release said.

The closure will allow the facility to be treated and retested. The town will announce its reopening and provide updates at

www.gilbertaz.gov.

District officials will provide Perry families with additional information

as it becomes available at the school and district website at ww2.chandler.k12.az.us.
