Chandler police are on the lookout for an intruder who has approached children in their homes and told them they had to leave because of a fire.
According to Chandler police, the man, described as a short, stocky Hispanic who is 25 to 35 years old, pulled the ruse Nov. 11 on a 12-year-old girl at 2:15 a.m. in an apartment at 555 E. Ray Road.
The girl, who had been sleeping on the couch when he entered through a window, called for her nearby mother.
The man also has entered the apartment of a family with an 11-year-old girl and 15-yearold boy on three occasions at 1320 N. McQueen Road since October. The latest incident was Tuesday, according to a police news release.
In that incident, an adult heard the front door open and saw the man standing inside the apartment. The man said there was a fire and then ran away.
“Right now, we’re looking at criminal trespass,” said Frank Mendoza, police spokesman. “But what his intent is, we don’t know.”
