New recruits are being sought by the Chandler Mustangs Young Marines, a group of boys and girls from age 8 to 18 who learn survival skills on camping trips, visit military bases, participate in veterans parades, and are taught honor, respect and discipline.
The Young Marines is the officially recognized youth organization of the United States Marine Corps. The Chandler Mustangs unit meets Mondays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Arizona Army National Guard Amory, 2100 S. Cooper Road. The first meeting of the new year is Aug. 8.
According to a news release, current members are raising money to participate in a parade in December to mark the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. All Young Marines units have been invited by the city of Honolulu to honor the Pearl Harbor survivors and all World War II veterans who secured America's victory.
