A total of four schools in Arizona, including two that cover East Valley students, received recognition from the U.S. Department of Education for student achievement and growth.
Chandler Traditional Academy – Liberty Campus in Chandler and Xavier College Preparatory Roman Catholic High School in Phoenix were two of the 286 schools across the country to receive National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition. Both schools, along with Arizona counterparts Sabino High School in Tucson and Vasquez de Coronado Elementary School in Nogales, will receive the recognition at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November.
“This is a proud day for these four schools,” said State Superintendent John Huppenthal in a press release. “This award recognizes a commitment to excellence in education — and, more importantly, a commitment to our students.”
Schools earn the designation for either their test results on state or national examinations or for growth in the performance of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
