Killed in the line of duty, Chandler Police Detective Carlos Ledesma gave the ultimate sacrifice in serving his community. Now 134 volunteers from law enforcement and public service agencies in Arizona will honor Ledesma's memory with the ultimate hike to the top of Humphrey's Peak in Flagstaff, an elevation of 12,633 feet.

The hike is part of the national Cops on Top event in which volunteers from each state undertake mountain climbing expeditions to honor heroes who lost their lives while protecting others. Hikers in each state will try to reach their respective summits by June 25.

Ledesma was fatally shot by suspects on July 28, 2010 during a narcotics investigation.
