Chandler is holding a neighborhood academy beginning Feb. 15 to help residents in non-homeowners association areas develop organizational and leadership skills. The free academy is similar to the city's existing program for HOAs, but uses a curriculum that addresses the needs of neighborhoods that don't have a formal governing structure.

The academy courses are held at 6 p.m. on four Wednesdays. The sessions help participants discuss characteristics of effective leaders and community leadership and knowing what city resources are available for neighborhoods. Also, the city will share how to develop a neighborhood survey, create an action plan and learn how to build relationships in the community to improve the neighborhood.

For more information and to register, call (480) 782-4320. Applications can be downloaded at www.chandleraz.gov/neighborhoods. Enrollment priority will be given to Chandler residents.
