Sandella's Flatbread Cafe has opened in Chandler, the first Arizona location for the fast-growing Connecticut-based chain.

The restaurant, owned by franchisee Mountain State Foods, is located at the northwest corner of Kyrene Road and Chandler Boulevard.

The cafe offers a health-conscious menu that includes grilled paninis, sandwiches, grilled flatbreads, chopped salads and quesadillas. All are made with brick-oven flatbread that is low calorie and fat free, said Jeff Carter, director of operations.

The company hopes to expand to other parts of the Valley, he said.

A total of 150 Sandella Flatbread restaurants are operating nationwide, and 400 new units are in development in the United States and the Middle East.
