Chandler, Mesa and Tempe will share part of $18.7 million in federal funding that Arizona will receive this year for affordable housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Community Development Block Grant funding to the three East Valley cities. The communities can use the funds for affordable housing, rehabilitation and infrastructure development.
Mesa also received funding for the Home Investment Partnerships Program, which can be used for rental assistance, to help new homebuyers or aid in building affordable housing. And the city got funding for emergency shelters. The funding totals are about $4.6 million for Mesa, $1.5 million for Tempe and $1.3 million for Chandler.
