Despite ongoing labor discussions, bus service provided by Valley Metro in cities across the East Valley will remain in service until at least midnight on July 2.

A press release sent by Valley Metro states the company is working with ATU 1433, the bus operators’ union, to reach an official agreement to continue service in 40 routes encompassing Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe. The routes were expected to close on July 1, but the two sides agreed to resume labor negotiations on July 2, and the routes remained open on the first.

If Valley Metro and the union cannot reach an agreement and the ATU goes on strike, Valley Metro will not provide contingency bus service for the following East Valley routes: Flash, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Buzz, Link-Main St., Link-Arizona Avenue, 30, 45, 48, 56, 61, 62, 66, 72, 77, 81, 96, 104, 108, 112, 120, 128, 136, 156, 184, 511, 514, 520, 521, 522, 531, 533, 535, 541, 542.
