The Tempe Community Council has named Harry Mitchell as the recipient of the 2012 Don Carlos Humanitarian Award, the most prestigious distinction in the city for those who give back to the community.
The TCC is recognizing Mitchell for his belief in the importance of community building. The organization cited Mitchell’s friendly demeanor and his 50-plus years of community involvement. His contributions include co-founding the Tempe Sister City Corporation, teaching government at Tempe High School for decades, terms on the City Council and as mayor, state Senator and U.S. Representative from 2006 through 2010.
Mitchell will receive the award Oct. 10, along with several other local philanthropists and volunteers.
The event is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the PERA Club Pavilion at 1 E. Continental Drive. Reservations are required and tickets are $50 per person, $80 for two or $400 for table of 10. For information, visit www.tempecommunitycouncil.org or call (480) 858-2300.
