A man who said he was meeting someone in the parking lot of a Mesa Sportsman's Warehouse to sell an AR-15 rifle after setting up the sale on backpage.com, was robbed instead on Sunday.

The victim told police when he met the other man about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store at 1750 S. Greenfield Road, the suspect pointed a handgun at him, stole the rifle, cell phone and truck keys before driving away in a light blue/gray Ford Fusion or Taurus.

As the suspect was driving away, the victim pulled a handgun and fired it at his vehicle three times, hitting a Valley Metro van, but no one was injured, according to police.

It wasn't immediately known if the victim was facing any charges for firing on the vehicle in the parking lot.

The suspect is described as a white male about 30 years old with a shaved head and weighing about 190 pounds. Officers are continuing to investigate the crime to see if they can identify him.
