Those "gobbling up" gas before heading out of town can be thankful that pump prices continued their five-week descent. Statewide, Thursday's fuel price was $3.267 per gallon, a drop of 4.5 cents from last week. Nationwide, prices fell 7.3 cents to $3.329 per gallon.
In the East Valley, the average price per gallon was $3.223 on Thursday, 5 cents lower than last week, but far higher than last year's $2.774.
Tucson and Flagstaff held the low and high state fuel averages on Thursday at $3.110 and $3.494 per gallon, respectively
AAA estimates that Arizonans will spend an average of $620 over Thanksgiving weekend. Of this total, 13 percent - or just over $80 - will be spent on fuel.
"The cost of Thanksgiving dinner isn't the only thing on the rise this year, as motorists will spend more than ever before to drive to their holiday destinations this week," said Linda Gorman, communications and public affairs director for AAA Arizona.
