The Apache Junction Unified School District has announced an overall school tax rate of $4.23 for the 2010-11 fiscal year. The rate is a decrease of $0.01 from 2009-10 and marks the 14th consecutive year the district has seen an overall tax reduction, according to a district news release.
The district's primary tax rate - used to pay for daily operations - saw a decrease of $0.15 to $2.96 over the past year due to the district's release of cash reserves and the Arizona Legislature's decision not to perform a ‘sweep' of available cash from districts as was done the previous year. The secondary rate - used for bond repayment - was increased $0.14 to $1.27 due to the final phase-out of a 2003 maintenance and operations budget override and changes to annual debt service costs.
