East Valley drivers saw more relief at the pump this week as prices dropped nearly 3 cents.
Drivers in Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe, Chandler and Queen Creek were paying $3.712 per gallon on average Thursday, a decrease of 2.9 cents since the previous week and 6.6 cents in the last month.
The statewide average dropped almost 3 cents to $3.682 per gallon, making it 2.4 cents below month-ago prices. Nationally, prices fell almost a nickel to $3.645 per gallon, which is almost 14 cents below month-ago levels.
“It’s still too soon to say whether retail prices have peaked for the spring, because refinery maintenance is still being completed,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “However, Arizona finally is seeing its prices dip below month-ago levels. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we predict prices to continue to drop in the short term.”
