If you love animals, what could be more fun than volunteering at the zoo? The Phoenix Zoo, 455 N. Galvin Parkway, is currently seeking a number of volunteers to help inspire visitors and motivate them to care for the natural world.

Stingray Bay volunteers work in the zoo's interactive exhibit where guests get to touch and feed stingrays. They answer questions, share stories and information, and maintain a safe exhibit for the animals and guests. At the Petting Zoo, volunteers are needed to help kids and families interact with goats and other farm animals, answer questions and keep the exhibit safe and clean. As Orangutan Hosts, volunteers share the zoo's state-of-the-art orangutan exhibit with guests. The folks at the zoo say the orangutan volunteer opportunity is especially good for those who are new to the zoo and want to focus on one type of animal.

The zoo also needs volunteers to help special needs kids engage live animals and learning stations, trail host volunteers to interact with guests and help them spot hard-to-find animals, and volunteers to help the zoo's horticulturists with maintenance of grounds and irrigation systems, fertilization of plants and turf, and landscaping.

Specific requirements for each volunteer position vary slightly, but most require a federal criminal background check and $35 Phoenix Zoo volunteer membership fee to cover background check and uniform.
