A Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled Thursday to hold “Baseline Killer” suspect Mark Goudeau in jail without bail until his trial next month on charges stemming from the Sept. 20, 2005, rapes of two sisters.

In his decision, Judge James Keppel said that Goudeau “poses a substantial danger to the victims in this case and others” and that no conditions or combination of conditions could ensure their safety.

Keppel also found that “the proof is evident or the presumption great” that Goudeau committed the rapes.

The ruling comes after a Dec. 7 hearing where prosecutors asked that Goudeau be held without bail in the rapes case.

Police said last week that Goudeau, 42, a construction worker from Phoenix, is their prime suspect in the Baseline Killer crime spree that spanned almost a year, from August 2005 to June 29.

The crimes included the attack against the sisters and other rapes, robberies and nine slayings, many of which occurred near Baseline Road.

The county attorney’s office is reviewing those additional cases to decide what charges to bring against Goudeau.

Goudeau has pleaded not guilty and his attorney has said he didn’t commit any of the crimes.
