Three young men have pleaded not guilty in connection with the beating of an Arizona State University student in Tempe.
The student suffered a broken jaw and facial fractures in the Sept. 2 beating in an elevator at an off-campus apartment complex.
A Maricopa County Superior Court spokeswoman says 19-year-old Kiernan Daniel Bates on Monday pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
Also, 21-year-old Joshua Drew James and 19-year-old Harsimrandeep Singh Bhatti pleaded not guilty to unlawful imprisonment.
A court document says the victim was an uninvited guest at Bates' apartment and the three men were trying to get him to leave.
James and Bhatti are accused of forcing the victim against his will inside an elevator.
Surveillance video helped Tempe police identify the three suspects.
