Higley district board mulling budget options
The governing board for the Chandler Unified School District approved a budget that includes $200.3 million for maintenance and operations. The bulk of the funding is for teacher salaries and benefits.
The tax rate is estimated to stay the same — $3.6423 for the primary tax rate and $1.5202 for the secondary rate, per $100 of assessed value, said district chief financial officer Joel Wirth.
The rate will be finalized in August by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
The district is opening two new elementary schools when classes begin July 28.
The district is also hiring about 60 more teachers for the new school year.
