YOUNG — Firefighters are maintaining lines around an eastern Arizona wildfire that was threatening transmission lines owned by SRP and APS, two of the state’s largest utilities.

The Poco Fire near Young now is estimated to be 11,011 acres, up from 8,100 acres the day before. It remained 15 percent contained Thursday.

Fire information spokeswoman Punky Moore says the twin power lines have been turned back on.

Crews plan to reinforce fire lines on the north, south and east sides. They also will be conducting burn-out operations on the fire’s southwest side on Forest Road 857.

About 730 firefighters, along with several helicopters and other resources are battling the blaze.

Moore says smoke along the Mogollon Rim will be visible to residents.

Some forest roads in the area are closed.
