State Rep. Amanda Reeve (R-Cave Creek) has proposed a bill that would make synthetic drugs marketed as Spice or K2 illegal in the state. The products are also known Skunk, Yucatan Fire, Black Mamba, Blaze and Red X Dawn and are sold as incense, though users typically smoke them like marijuana. The ingredients are currently illegal under federal law but not state law.

“Spice, K2 and similar products pose a serious danger to people who use them and to the safety of our communities. There is no reason Arizona should permit the sale and use of this dangerous drug which is already banned under federal law,” said Reeve, whose district includes the Cave Creek area and parts of northern Phoenix. “Having these products legally available only adds to the challenge faced by Arizona law enforcement in fighting the problems caused by illegal drugs,” she added.

If approved, Reeve’s bill will classify the chemical compound used in synthetic cannabis products as a dangerous drug prohibited for sale, transfer or use under Arizona’s Criminal Code. A bill with similar language is expected to be proposed in the State Senate.

“This synthetic dangerous drug is being falsely presented to our youth as a safe, legal alternative to marijuana when in fact it is neither safe nor legal, nor is it marijuana,” commented Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. “I applaud Rep. Reeve for taking steps to ban these products and I call on her colleagues in the Legislature to support this effort.”

I know they are trying to close any loopholes that current k2 incense manufacturers are trying to get around but my friends still buy k2 incense from places that still claim to offer legal everywhere k2 herb blends like http://www.buyherbalincense.com As long as marijuana is prohibited there is going to be a niche for marijuana alternatives.

Isn't it funny how you can go to the doctor and easily get a prescription for an endless amount of drugs that can lead to organ damage/failure or even death, yet the authorities are having a hissy fit over some k2 herb fake weed stuff. Okay, not funny. Infuriating. They waste so much time and money chasing stuff like this down. They are only adding to the huge overcrowding problem we currently have in American prisons. K2 incense has survived every ban thus far and you can buy k2 smoke products from these guys, http://www.k2incenseblend.com that aren't restricted by ANY current ban, so really, what exactly are they trying to achieve here???

It is blatantly obvious that prohibition just doesn't work. K2 herb has survived all these bans thus far. If people want to buy k2 smoke, it looks like they are going to have no problems doing it as there are places like, http://www.k2incense.org that have k2 incense products that aren't restricted by any current bans. It's unconstitutional to make someone's recreational decisions for them. I think our founding fathers would be appalled by how The Constitution is being stomped on. Let us have more respect for our individual liberties and take more personal responsibility. Parent your children, stop looking to Mommy Government to do it for you with all these ineffective and oppressive laws.

Don't forget to put "Oleanders" on the list. Ya smoke that stuff, you'll be dead in three minutes. Now there's a "dangerous drug"

Just think about all the jobs created with the "Oleander Police' rippin up back yards.

it's a sad day for me to be a conservative when you have to rely on liberals to try to get rid of stupid legislation like this.

apparently, conservatives in power don't believe in individual liberty.

    How silly.

If they succeed in banning all synthetic drugs, what are hospitals going to use?

Or do they only mean synthetic drugs they don't like?

Include, aspirin, acetaminophen, synthetic opiates, and a bunch of other synthetics. Stick to the stuff nature provides naturally.
