The Make-A-Wish Foundation is asking individuals to donate frequent flier miles, which will be used to help fund the travel wishes of children suffering from life-threatening conditions.
The Make-A-Wish Arizona chapter needs nearly 90 million airline miles each year for wishes; last year it only received about 4.5 million donated frequent flyer miles. The remaining miles must be purchased, making airline tickets a costly wish expense for the Foundation. Airfare is the largest expense of wish granting.
Last fiscal year the Arizona Make-A-Wish Foundation granted 253 wishes, the most since its inception in 1980. Approximately 70 percent of those wishes included air travel.
