A recruiter at Arizona State University was arrested in Tempe over the weekend for one count of possession of narcotic drug and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Tempe police report.

David Muller, 28, is a graduate programs recruiter at the W.P. Carey School of Business, according to ASU spokeswoman Julie Newberg.

According to the report, a security employee at a Mill Avenue bar contacted Tempe police early Saturday morning about two men he allegedly saw in possession of cocaine.

The employee reportedly told police he saw the men in a bathroom stall at Rula Bula Irish Pub and Restaurant “holding a small clear baggie and a ‘spoon’ like object to their noses."

The employee told the men to leave and police spotted them walking south from the bar, the report says.

When Muller saw two Tempe police bicycle officers, he reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a small clear baggie with white powder inside and it fell to the ground, according to police.

Both men were detained and the baggie, containing a usable amount of white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, was recovered, the report says.

The substance was tested and the results were positive for a narcotic, according to police. Residue from Muller’s hand reportedly also resulted in a positive test.

Muller denied having a baggie in his pocket, removing the baggie from his pocket and having residue on his hand, police say.

Muller was arrested and booked into the Tempe City Jail. He was later released pending on the drug charges, the report says.
