A man shot inside a Chandler Walmart has died, according to authorities.

Chandler police Sgt. Joe Favazzo identified him only as a 36-year-old man from Phoenix.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at Alma School and Warner roads. Favazzo said the call to police indicated that one shot was fired and a person had been struck.

Police say the shooter is a 25-year-old Chandler man. They say he left the scene after the shooting and went to his home where family members called police when he told them what had happened. He is now being interviewed by police.

Favazzo said at this point police are not sure what led to the shooting, but that it does appear to be intentional.

Favazzo said there are a lot of witnesses and police are talking to them. He also said there is surveillance video from inside the store.

The Walmart will be closed until 7 a.m. Monday, police said.
