A real estate broker in Gilbert has been sentenced to 6½ years in federal prison for evading more than $3 million in taxes on income earned from real estate commissions and land sales.

Prosecutors say 67-year-old Sue J. Taylor was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

Taylor was found guilty by a federal jury April 28 for tax evasion and willful failure to file tax returns.

Evidence at trial showed Taylor began filing false income tax returns in 1997. She failed to file any income tax returns or report any income earned through her real estate brokerage, National Landbank.

Taylor previously served more than two years in prison for contempt of court in a separate civil case for refusing to produce records to the Internal Revenue Service.
