The parents of a Corona del Sol High School senior who died Sunday from his injuries after his vehicle was hit by an alleged drunk driver, are requesting that in lieu of flowers, people make donations to Students Against Drunk Drivers (SADD).
Cody Bishop, 18, who was set to graduate from the high school on May 27 and had aspirations to become a chef, was fatally injured about 10:15 p.m. on May 6 while turning into a shopping plaza on Ray Road near Rural Road. As he was turning into the plaza off of Ray Road, his van was struck by a pickup truck driven by Steven Landrum, 23, a resident of the Gila River Indian Community. Bishop’s parents decided to take Cody off life support late Saturday.
Landrum’s truck, which was traveling west on Ray Road, reached estimated speeds of more than 80 mph, and his blood alcohol content was .227 — nearly three times the legal limit of .08, according to Chandler police.
Bishop’s funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Arizona Community Church, 9325 S. Rural Road, Tempe.
