Sightings of comedian Jerry Seinfeld created some excitement Saturday on Tempe’s Mill Avenue.

Accompanied by two friends, Seinfeld spent at least a half-hour inside the Starbucks at Mill and Fifth Street, sipping a beverage while making small talk with curious customers.

"We were all standing behind the counter working, and one of our customers was like, ‘That’s Jerry Seinfeld, that’s him,’ " said Lauren Meyer, a 18-year-old barista at the coffee shop.

Seinfeld, who was wearing a yellow baseball cap, spent roughly another hour perusing other venues on the street before hopping in a chauffeured car with his associates.

"This is the Greenwich Village of Arizona," Seinfeld said when asked of his impressions of Mill, comparing it to the New York City neighborhood. The comedian was in the Valley performing at the Dodge Theatre on Friday and Saturday.

I actually wrote this story five years ago, and there was much more to it. For some odd reason, somebody went into it 5 years later and reduced it to a brief. (And removed my name.)

    I wonder why?[tongue_smile]
