Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne announced Tuesday that a Maricopa County Superior Court judge has approved an action that has resulted in the closure of a Tempe transmission business for failing to respond to consumer complaints.

A judge approved an addendum to consent judgment, requiring Transplant Plus Transmissions to cease operations after the shop violated a previous judgment that the state filed against it last year. The order also prohibits the shop’s owner, Robert Brady, from owning or managing a transmission shop for 10 years and requires him to file dissolution papers with the Arizona Corporation Commission within 60 days, according to the AG’s office.

The Better Business Bureau had reported that the shop had 12 complaints filed against it since July 2011 involving the language in a warranty, claiming that the company could repossess the vehicle if the customer tried to stop or reverse a payment, according to the AG’s office.

The shop failed to address the complaints and now is required to pay civil penalty of $250,000 to the state, $27,835 in restitution to the customers, and $11,925 in attorney’s fees, according to the AG’s office.
