As Wing Mountain opens in Flagstaff Saturday officials are requesting that visitors stick to the appropriate slops.

The Wing Mountain Snow Play Area is designated for adults and children. Access to the area is off Highway 180 just north of the Snowbowl ski area. The parking lot has been expanded to hold up to 600 cars this season, according to officials.

Wing Mountain is located just 9 miles northwest of Flagstaff, and it is the largest official snow play area on public land in Arizona, according to officials. Visitors who don’t intend to pay for the slopes should avoid Snowbowl and instead access the Wing Mountain Snow Play Area, according to officials.

“There is a tremendous need for a place for people to safely play in the snow,” says Kelly Moffitt, of Recreation Resource Management. “We developed the Snow Play Area with safety in mind.”

The Wing Mountain Snow Play area typically opens with the first snowfall in November, and operates until mid-March, from 9:00 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week. There is a fee of $10.00 to access the facility for cars holding up to 5 people, and $2 for each additional person.

For more information or detailed directions visit http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino, www.Snowplayaz.com or call the Wing Mountain Hotline at (928) 226-0493.
