Tempe is likely to name an interim city manager this week to fill in for Will Manley, who will retire later this month.
Manley has recommended assistant city manager Jeff Kulaga for the temporary job, and the City Council will vote on the matter Thursday. Kulaga would run the city until the council appoints a permanent replacement, probably this fall.
Kulaga has worked for Tempe for three years and is not seeking the post permanently.
Manley announced his retirement a month ago, saying he was burnt out after 6 ½ years in the job. His last day will be Aug. 31.
