MaryAnne Majestic was appointed Thursday by the Tempe City Council as presiding judge of the Tempe Municipal Court.
Majestic is a 16-year Tempe Municipal Court veteran. She is taking over the top spot from Louraine Arkfeld, who is retiring June 29 after 16 years in the position.
Majestic has served eight, two-year terms as a judge in the Tempe Municipal Court since 1994. Before that, she served as an assistant city prosecutor for Mesa and as an attorney in private practice. She has a master's degree in public administration.
Majestic will start in her new role June 30.
