Authorities say a driver has been injured in an accident that involved a train and minivan in Tempe Thursday morning.
Tempe police Sgt. Steve Carbajal said the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. when the driver went around the railroad crossing arms which were down at the time of the crash.
Carbajal said the adult female driver of the minivan was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
Carbajal said the driver was headed eastbound on University Drive when she went around the barrier and was struck by the northbound train just west of Mill Avenue.
ABC15 video showed the van was damaged on the passenger side.
The roadway was closed for a couple of hours while the scene was clearred.
Carbajal said the driver likely faces a citation for the accident.
