PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Republic is introducing a paywall for its website.

The newspaper announced this week (http://bit.ly/Nu4wjn) that it is launching a new subscription model for Azcentral.com beginning in September.

According to the newspaper, the new subscription model will include options that range from full access digital-only to full access with seven-day delivery of the print edition. The cost will vary, and most subscriptions will increase in price.

The cost will be $10 per month and will provide full access to all digital content. Non-subscribers will be able to view a limited number of articles before they are required to subscribe.

That's why I no longer have an AZCentral.com account.

It would one thing if the Republic was a quality newspaper and maintained a decent web site. It isn't and it doesn't.

AZCentral needs to replace its editing monkeys with real humans if they want to stay online after 9/10.

Amazing that some newspapers think so highly of themselves that they place a price for online editions.

i understand there are expenses involved in having an online presence.

I wouldn't mind paying under some circumstances.

I have a couple of problems with paying for things as they are now.

First, they need to get new software for discussion areas like this.
We cannot edit our typos -- which is ridiculous. This software is from 1986.

Second, their curse word filter prevents you from using words that appear in articles from news sources. It is WAY to restrictive.

Third, their proofreaders / writers are terrible. It is common to see them use " you " instead of " your ". That makes me grind my teeth every time I see it. Poorly educated writers and proofreaders annoys quite a few people considering some comments I have seen.

I'm also wondering --- I just renewed my 7 day a week subscription and it's good until November. Am I going to get another bill? There was nothing said about this new plan on my bill.
