By now, you have surely noticed some changes to eastvalleytribune.com. As part of a redesign of the Tribune newspaper that takes effect on March 6, we have also changed the look and feel of our website to coincide with some of the content changes.
So what's new?
-- Instead of one main story at the top of the home page, you'll see five stories featured on a rotating basis. More top stories are located in a window below, giving you a sizable cross-section of the most important things happening in the East Valley and beyond.
-- "Happening Now..." will show you the latest offerings at eastvalleytribune.com. In addition to showcasing the latest headlines, we'll be able to use this feature in a conversational way to let you know what's going on at the Tribune, and in other places we think might be of interest to you. Think of it as our Facebook wall -- only without the "like" button!
-- On the right-hand side of the home page, a new feature will showcase our top columnists. Our Tribune reporters will be sharing their expertise with columns about what's happening in the East Valley. We're also bringing back a few familiar faces: Former Tribune editor Jim Ripley and former columnist Mark Scarp will again share their news and views about what's going on in our communities, and Jerry Brown is back with his popular Brownie Points column - an irreverent look at the Valley sports scene - every Sunday.
-- The Get Out section will also have featured columnists on topics ranging from food and wine to healthy living. And our Money section will include more news and analysis as we make that a permanent staple of the newspaper.
-- "Today's Talkers" on the home page will be the place to find those quirky stories that everyone is talking about at the office -- whether it's Fulton Brock being warned about bringing food to his wife in prison, or a BYU basketball player being kicked off the team for engaging in pre-marital sex. No, we don't make this stuff up.
-- We also have more community news on the home page, from our spotlight on a volunteer opportunity in the East Valley, to a featured pet every week (coming soon on the home page) and a spot you'll see next week that displays photos submitted by you, the readers.
More changes to the website will be rolled out in the coming weeks, but that will get you started. It's all part of the Tribune's expansion that includes increasing our Sunday circulation from 100,000 to 150,000 households in the East Valley.
Nearly one year to the date that Randy Miller bought the Tribune, we look at today's improvements as the start of a new era. And for a paper that's been around for more than 100 years, we don't take that lightly.
It's all done with you, the readers, in mind. So please stay tuned in the coming weeks as we continue to make improvements to the site.
Bob Romantic, East Valley Tribune managing editor

The new wibsite TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!!! What are you thinking????? The last page layout was so much easier to read--everything smack right infront of you.......now you have to go search and look at each seperate city/town. It sucks! [angry]

Yup...the more tinkering, the worst things get. Whenever the suits don't have enough to do, they start thinking of ways to "improve" stuff. Old wine in new bottles.

Will the new changes include better reporting? Investigative reporting?
Fact checking?
Hell, at this point, I'd settle for an occasional SPELL checking.
